General Questions

Yes, our products and packaging are completely free from plastic and microplastics. Kiyo toothpaste tablets come in glass jars or paper refill pouches. The glass jars can be recycled with glass waste, and the paper pouches with paper waste. With Kiyo, you’re not only taking care of your teeth but also protecting the environment.

We develop and produce exclusively in Switzerland. The development and production are carried out by two different experts, both based in the canton of Aargau.

Of course! Animal testing for cosmetic products has been banned in the EU since 2013. To be more precise: animal testing for finished products was prohibited as early as 2004, and for raw materials developed solely for cosmetics, since 2009. Since 2013, neither cosmetic products nor their ingredients may be tested on animals. The same applies to Switzerland, even though it is not explicitly regulated by law. Based on this framework — and out of personal conviction — all Kiyo products are vegan and cruelty-free.

Toothpaste Tabs

Conventional toothpaste consists of 40–50% water — the cheapest raw material! To preserve this water, a large amount of preservatives and stabilizers is needed, which are not relevant for dental care — and neither for you nor the environment. That’s why we developed toothpaste tablets made from compressed powder. They contain no water at all and only natural ingredients that truly matter for your oral care.

1. bite - Chew the toothpaste tablet to form a paste.
2. brush - Now you can brush as usual with your toothbrush.
3. rinse & smile - At least twice a day.

We offer toothpaste tablets both with and without sodium fluoride.

Fluoride is a natural mineral that can also be found in drinking water. In oral care, sodium fluoride has antibacterial properties and helps harden and remineralize tooth enamel. In small amounts, sodium fluoride has positive effects on teeth and bones. However, in excessive amounts, fluoride can be harmful. For this reason, many people consciously choose fluoride-free products — which is why we offer both options.

Experts recommend a maximum daily intake of 0.05 mg per kg of body weight (this includes food, drinks, toothpaste, etc.). By law, adult toothpaste may contain no more than 0.15% fluoride (1500 ppm, parts per million). Our fluoride-containing toothpaste tablets contain 1450 ppm.

The fluoride content is 1450 ppm.

We include this warning on both the fluoride and fluoride-free tablets mainly because toothpaste in tablet form is a new type of application. According to experts, the legal limit of 1500 ppm fluoride (parts per million per toothpaste tube) is already recommended for children from the age of 6. Therefore, children aged 6 and above could also use our sodium-fluoride tablets. The same applies to our fluoride-free tablets.

For products with a shelf life longer than 30 months, regulations require the symbol of an open jar showing the period of use after opening. For Kiyo toothpaste tablets, this period is 12 months. Within this time, the product can be used safely — provided the tablets are stored properly and kept tightly closed.

Based on the ingredients used, the RDA value is in the medium range, at around 45–55, making it suitable for daily dental care.
